Frequently asked questions

The Octopamine Antibody (IS1033) is a purified rabbit polyclonal antibody developed for research use. It is optimized to detect octopamine with high affinity and specificity in applications like immunofluorescence (IF) and immunohistochemistry (IHC), making it a valuable tool for visualizing octopaminergic structures using the STAINperfect™ immunostaining kit A.

Competitive ELISA assays confirm that the IS1033 antibody binds strongly to octopamine conjugates while showing negligible cross-reactivity with structurally related neurotransmitters—such as tyramine, dopamine, or noradrenaline—ensuring accurate immunolabeling in complex tissue samples.

IS1033 has been validated for use in whole-mount preparations, cell cultures, and tissue sections. It has demonstrated effective immunofluorescence labeling, particularly in crayfish brain tissues, when used with the STAINperfect™ kit.

This antibody is broadly reactive across species. Like other small-molecule-targeted antibodies from ImmuSmol, IS1033 is compatible with samples from any species because small molecules such as octopamine are phylogenetically conserved across species.

For best results, IS1033 should be used at dilutions between 1/250 and 1/1000, depending on sample type and staining conditions, using the antibody diluent included in the STAINperfect™ kit. Short-term storage at +4 °C is acceptable (up to two weeks), while long-term aliquoting at –20 °C is advised to preserve antibody integrity—avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

Yes—one of the most recent studies, published in 2025 by Xu et al., titled “cAMP-related second messenger pathways modulate hearing function in Aedes aegypti mosquitoes,” used the IS1033 antibody (at 1:500 dilution) in its immunoassay protocol. Another well-cited study from 2022, “Octopamine drives honeybee thermogenesis,” used IS1033 in immunolabeling to map octopaminergic neurons in honeybee flight muscles.
