Sample collection & storage Plasma: EDTA-Plasma samples only. Do not use haemolytic or lipemic samples. Storage: up to 6 hours at 2 – 8°C; for longer periods (up to 6 months) at – 20°C

Urine: Spontaneous or 24-hours urine, collected in a bottle containing 10-15 mL of 6 M HCl. Storage: for longer periods (up to 6 months) at -20°C

A key neurotransmitter in the brain, Dopamine (DA) does not cross the blood-brain barrier. Found at concentrations similar to those of epinephrine in plasma, free dopamine is mainly produced at the peripheral level by the sympathetic nervous system and the digestive system. In humans, at least 95% of plasma dopamine circulates in the form of dopamine sulfate, a conjugate produced by mesentric organs. Playing a key role as a regulator of blood flow, circulating dopamine also exerts exocrine and paracrine effects on immune cells, the pancreas and the kidney.
