Kynurenic-Acid-Quinolinic-Acid-ELISA-ratio-pack-5Kynurenic acid (KYNA) and quinolinic acid (QA) are downstream metabolites of the kynurenine pathway with well‑established neuromodulatory and immunomodulatory activities. Quantifying KYNA and QA in biological samples is increasingly investigated as a potential biomarker strategy for various diseases.
Measurement of plasma levels of both KYNA and QA in mice treated with KMO inhibitors.Mice were administered one of two selective KMO inhibitors—Ro‑618048 or UPF648—at two dose levels. Plasma samples were collected before dosing and at 1.5 h and 6 h post‑treatment. Kynurenic acid and quinolinic acid concentrations were then quantified using ELISA kits IS‑I‑0200 and IS‑I‑0100.
KYNA / QA ELISA standard curvesExamples of standard curves obtained with the Kynurenic acid and Quinolinic acid ELISA kits. Because these assays are competitive, the optical density (OD) decreases as KYNA or QA concentration increases. The curves are shown for illustration only and must not be used for quantitative calculations.
KYNA and QA along the Kynurenine PathwayKynurenic acid (KYNA) and quinolinic acid (QA) are downstream metabolites of the kynurenine pathway with well‑established neuromodulatory and immunomodulatory activities. Quantifying KYNA and QA in biological samples is increasingly proposed as a biomarker strategy for a range of disorders.

Immusmol’s two ready‑to‑use ELISA kits enable the quantification of kynurenic acid (KYNA) and quinolinic acid (QA) in serum or plasma. Requiring only a minimal sample volume (50µL) and compatible with any species, the assays fit seamlessly into both pre‑clinical and clinical workflows.
These kits have already helped researchers investigate neuroinflammatory disorders such as bipolar disorder and multiple sclerosis in human plasma and serum samples.
